Garlic Butter Fried Rice: Super Simple to Make

Where Garlic Butter Fried Rice Came From

Garlic butter fried rice is not something I made up, but its a dish I’ve enjoyed for a long time. I grew up to a family of immigrants in America. To provide for the family, my dad and got jobs cooking at restaurants. Somehow everyone ended up in a Japanese-style restaurant. These restaurants like Benihani made a special kind of fried rice – with garlic butter. This fried rice is so special  because its so aromatic from the infused garlic yet super fluffy and a bit creamy from the butter. It brings fried rice to a whole new level.

The Versatility of Fried Rice

Those who never grew up around asian culture wouldn’t have the luxury (or curse) of having fried rice on a daily basis. The reason why so many asian cultures incorporate fried rice into their daily lives is because its super simple to make. All it is is taking rice and mixing a bunch of ingredients with some sauce together over a hot pan or wok. Cooking rice might seem like an inconvenience, but only at first. Making a big batch gives you leftover which is perfect for making fried rice.

There are so many different variations of fried rice out there. Every culture mixes their signature ingredients from their region to create something special. From Korean, Vietnamese or even Hawaiian, they all make a unique fried rice. For example, Koreans make kimchi fried rice by using kimchi. Hawaiians tend to make fried rice with spam or pineapples because that’s what reflects their culture. Random fact, but did you know that pineapples are the cheapest produce in Hawaii? Anyway, there are endless possibilities to make fried rice with.

Garlic Butter Fried Rice

For some of us however, getting started isn’t so easy. Its like asking a beginner to make pasta; easy for most of us but not for someone who never made it before. Not everyone grew up eating fried rice on a regular basis. The garlic butter fried rice is not a traditional asian dish. If you look at the ingredients for asian dishes, butter is almost never used. Instead, its more of a fusion dish that enhances a normal fried rice dish with a savory garlic butter. Its more of an east meets west kind of dish. It takes the fried rice from eastern culture and mixes it with butter from western culture.

Those that don’t know much about fried rice cant go wrong starting with garlic butter fried rice. Its a simple dish that mixes in protein and vegetables and simply uses garlic butter. The garlic butter is what brings out the amazing taste. Its so great, you can add it to other types of fried rices. Even in Hawaiian, Korean or Vietnamese fried rice, garlic butter would still enhance it. For those who want something spicier, spicy fried rice is also simple to make.

Detailed Instructions

Fried rice is quite simple to make. You only need a few ingredients. In fact, you could get away with just rice, soy sauce, and egg.

The first step is to saute the vegetables first. Add oil and let them cook in a pan or wok. The vegetables are chopped in bite size so they cook pretty fast. They’re ready when its a bit beginning to soften. Next add in the rice and cook and simply heat them up.

Separate the veggies and rice and crack open two eggs and scramble them. They don’t have to be perfectly done, just until its beginning to form.

After, mix in the veggies and egg together with the rice and mix well together. Salt and peper for seasoning.

Add in the infamous garlic butter and mix well. For those who don’t know how to get garlic butter, simply melt butter into minced garlic and mix well together.

After, cook the shrimp or whichever protein you have separately from the rice. When the shrimp is almost ready, mix them back up with the fried rice.
